About Pathways Regina
Pathways Regina is a website committed to bringing the facts about homelessness in Regina to light and to find collaborative solutions among governments, community-based organizations and the private sector. Pathways Regina offers one of the paths to ensuring adequate, affordable and suitable housing options as well as emergency shelter options for individuals and families in our community. Pathways Regina is integrated with the Regina HIFIS Initiative.
The Regina HIFIS Initiative was established to develop a local, community-driven information system for service providers that work with persons who are homeless or marginally housed. This initiative aims to increase the understanding of homelessness in Regina and to serve all stakeholders across the city, including homeless and marginally housed persons, service providers, researchers, and multiple levels of government. The intiative focusses on data collection, research, collaboration, and public education:
Data Collection & Research
A primary component of the Regina Initiative is the implementation and use of the HIFIS software. HIFIS is a user-friendly electronic database system created in consultation with homelessness service providers to aid in assisting in daily operations, records management, and reporting. Software, training, and on-going support are provided free of charge by the HIFIS Community Coordinator. Through mutual agreements, service providers provide the HIFIS Community Coordinator with non-identifying data, collected through HIFIS or another database, to aid in research on Regina’s homelessness issues.
Collaboration and Public Education
The Regina HIFIS Initiative aims to bring together service providers to facilitate the coordination of activities in order to move forward a collective agenda to end homelessness and marginal housing conditions. Collaboration efforts will enable community organsiations to share stories and provide the homeless with a voice. Through a combination of data collection, research, and collaboration, the initiative provides evidence based information through various media outlets. This facilitates public education on homelessness and housing issues in Regina.
